Term 1, Week 5, 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had a fabulous start to our brand-new school! Our classrooms have been calm, new friendships and connections are being made, and there has been lots of great learning happening.
Our Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony was a beautiful celebration. A huge thank you to Uncle Josh for conducting the ceremony and welcoming us all to Bunurong land—wetlands country. We learned about the three local native trees used in the smoking ceremony and their significance to the traditional custodians of this land.
The Official Opening of Mirniyan Primary School was a special moment, with Deputy Premier Ben Carroll and local MP Ben Tarlamis unveiling our school plaque and cutting the ribbon. It was heartwarming to see so many parents, carers, community members, staff, friends, families, and professional colleagues join us for this milestone event.
Opening a new school takes vision, dedication, and the support of many. This event was a celebration of that collective effort, and I extend my deepest gratitude to everyone who has helped bring Mirniyan Primary School to life. A special thank you to our amazing Founding 2025 Mirniyan Primary School Staff, who have embraced our vision and made it a reality. Their dedication, commitment, respect, and kindness have made our school even better than I could have imagined.
A special thank you also goes to Jiya, Michi, Aladdin, and Aiden for their fantastic job in sharing information about our school. We also appreciate our student class representatives who spoke so well about their experiences, including Prep students; Lilly, Nikita, Inaaya, Siobhan; Grade 1/2 students Anaira and Nate; Grade 3/4 student Rudra; and Grade 5/6 student Neethushree.
Thank you for your continued support as we embark on this exciting journey together!
Warm regards,
Nicky Walker
Principal, Mirniyan Primary School
Outdoor Maths: Our prep students explored the school grounds, counting different objects they could see and touch.
Our Whole School Buddies program started last week and will run fortnightly, connecting younger and older students to build strong cross-school relationships.
Alternating with Buddies, Whole School Student-Led Assemblies will begin Friday, 28th February, at 2:30 pm in the stadium. All families are welcome to attend.
