Welcome to our Wellbeing newsletter

Welcome to the first edition of our Wellbeing newsletter for 2025!

We are excited to introduce our very first Wellbeing Newsletter at Mirniyan Primary School. This newsletter is designed to share with you the initiatives and practices we use to nurture and promote positive student wellbeing. Our goal is to provide valuable parenting tips, insights into our wellbeing strategies, and keep you informed about the various ways we’re supporting your child’s growth.

To kick things off, we would like to highlight one of the key areas that contribute to a healthy, respectful, and nurturing learning environment: our Expectations and Consequences.

To kick things off, we would like to highlight one of the key areas that contribute to a healthy, respectful, and nurturing learning environment: our Expectations and Consequences.

At Mirniyan Primary School, we believe that clear and simple expectations are essential in creating a positive and respectful school culture. Our students are beginning to fully understand and embrace these expectations, which are designed to help them grow into respectful individuals. Personally, I often wish I had these guidelines when raising my own children—such clear stepping stones to respect make a world of difference!

When students are not meeting these expectations, we have a clear, consistent system of consequences that helps guide them back on track. These are simple, manageable, and, importantly, help our students recognize what they need to do to improve. The best part? Our students are now able to articulate these expectations and understand what they need to do to follow them.

You’ll find our Expectations and Consequences displayed across all learning spaces in the school. This visible reminder reinforces the consistent framework we have in place to cultivate respect, responsibility, and a sense of community in every classroom.

Ensuring a Safe and Supportive Environment: Encouraging Students to Speak Up

Recently, you may have noticed a poster displayed throughout the school, which has sparked some conversations—particularly among parents of our younger students in Prep. Some have raised questions about whether the poster is encouraging students to "dob" or "report" on their peers. We want to clarify that the intention behind this message is not about tattling, but rather about empowering our students to speak up when something is not safe or when they feel uncomfortable.

At Mirniyan Primary, we strongly believe that helping students find their voices is crucial in creating a safe and supportive school environment. We encourage our students to communicate openly when they witness or experience situations that could lead to harm, as this plays a key role in preventing bullying and ensuring that everyone feels safe and valued.

That said, we recognise that sometimes students may interpret situations differently or may come to us with concerns that are not directly related to safety. We always approach these conversations with care, ensuring that each concern is addressed appropriately, helping our students develop empathy, responsibility, and the skills to navigate complex social situations.

Our goal is to foster an environment where every child feels empowered to speak up, knowing that their voice matters and contributes to the overall wellbeing of our school community. We appreciate your support in reinforcing this message at home and working with us to create a culture of kindness, respect, and safety.
